The First Wesak (Buddha’s Birthday Celebration) held by the Sino-American Buddhist Association
(later called Dharma Realm Buddhist Association)

六百多位信众在联合广场的花园里浴佛。随后，僧众领着队伍进入大殿（在第一公理教会），开始这一天主要的庆典。上人很不显眼地坐在信众当中，看着他年轻的出家弟子，带领信众进行传统的仪式：沐浴一尊佛像。藉此代表清净我们的自性。

More than 600 people gathered to bathe the Buddha in Union Square Park. Then the Sangha led a procession to the great hall (in the First Congregational Church) for the main celebrations of the day. The Master is shown here sitting inconspicuously in the primarily Western assembly as he watches his young monk and nun disciples lead participants in performing the traditional ritual of bathing the infant Buddha, which symbolizes the cleansing of our own natures.
