A typical and beloved gesture of the Master--bending close to his characters, cocking his head, and looking hard at them with a scrutinizing eye. He once told those attending his daily calligraphy class:
“You can be developing your skill in everything you do. For
instance, you may not perceive it, but for me, the process of
writing calligraphy involves my breath. You can learn many things
right in the course of living your daily lives.”
