THE GIFT OF DHARMA IS THE
HIGHEST OF ALL

◎ Ng Soh Joo October 4, 1995

I am truly grateful to the Venerable Master, whose Bodhisattva conduct and vows and boundless kindness awakened my faith in Buddhism. The Master’s goal of translating the entire Buddhist canon into English has indeed enabled me to obtain the greatest of all gifts─the gift of Dharma.

It started in early 1992 when I attended (at the encouragement of my colleague, to whom I am especially thankful) the final session of a four-day talk by the Venerable Master’s disciples, who were in Singapore on a Dharma Propagation Tour. I was overjoyed at hearing the wonderful sound of proper Dharma for the first time. After reading Records of the Life of the Venerable Master Hsuan Hua and the Buddha Root Farm which were available for free distribution at that time, I was immediately inspired to cultivate the Buddhadharma in accordance with the Master’s compassionate teaching.

The Master’s dedication of merits and blessings to world peace through his tough ascetic lifestyle profoundly touched and planted the seeds of Bodhi in the hearts of countless living beings. Forgetting about himself for the sake of propagating the orthodox Buddhadharma to all living beings, he was the most remarkable and vigorous cultivator of this era.

I earnestly wish that the Master’s transmission of the orthodox Dharma to the West will dwell eternally in the world to liberate all beings from sufferings, and that they cultivate pure practices, so that all can be reborn in the Ultimate Land of Bliss.

Last, but not least, may the Sagely City of Ten Thousand Buddhas always remain as the international spiritual community to unite all religious people as a single family. It was with this purpose of promoting vast affinities and harmony among mankind that the Venerable Master established the monasteries and educational institutions in the City.

Patience, patience, gotta have patience, suo po he!
Venerable Master Hua
