IN ETERNAL REMEMBRANCE

◎ Respectfully submitted by Abbotess Shi Yanjun and the fourfold assembly of disciples of Guangxin (Vast Mind) Buddhist Convent, City of Yingkou,
Liaoning Province July 25, the year of the Buddha 2539 (1995)

A bright lamp of wisdom has gone out at the Sagely City of Ten Thousand Buddhas! The Venerable Master Hua, one of the true disciples of the Buddha in this age, has suddenly left us! This obituary brings us great sorrow! As Buddhists from Liaoning, in the Venerable Master’s native Manchuria, we are deeply filled with grief!

The Venerable Master could be called a holy monk of this age, for he had the compassion of the Buddhas. With his vast vows, he came to be born in this dark land where it is difficult to get to hear the Buddha¬dharma. The darkness was dispelled by the light of the Venerable Master’s wisdom, allowing everyone to see the spiritual light of the Buddhas. Wherever this spiritual light spread, it would get rid of the darkness of delusion. This spiritual light crossed over the vast Pacific ocean and arrived at the other shore, in that country of highly developed material civilization. The people in that place are strongly attached to the various forms of material objects of the world of sense. The spiritual light enabled the beings in that land, who were accustomed to taking the counterfeit to be genuine, the wrong to be right, and the false to be true, to make a turnaround, take refuge in the Triple Jewel, and enter the pure Dharma nature. How enormous is the power of the Dharma!

The Buddhist terms Proper Dharma, Resemblance Dharma, and Ending Dharma are relative to each other. At the Sagely City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, the Venerable Master maintained the Buddha’s timeless teachings, practicing the traditional rules of eating one meal a day and not lying down at night to subdue sleep and afflictions. Thus a Way-place of the Proper Dharma came to be established in the West. This is truly an unparalleled feat in the world, a rare miracle throughout the ages! We pay respect to him over and over, and bow again and again, paying homage forever without rest, in order to show our eternal remembrance of the Venerable Master’s virtuous character.

We have never seen the Venerable Master in person, yet we have respectfully read the Venerable Master’s Instructional Talks many times. We have gained profound benefit from them and engraved them in our hearts.

Although the Venerable Master has left us, this bright lamp of Prajna will never go out and will constantly shine upon our bodies and minds. We vow to vigorously practice according to the standards of the precepts, resolutely carrying out the pure work of Bodhi!

We vow to use our pure bodies, mouths, and minds to sincerely pay homage to, praise, and make offerings to the Venerable Hsuan, the Noble Hua, in thought after thought without weariness!

We congratulate the Venerable Master for realizing permanence, joy, true self, and purity!
