The Record of the Dharma Protector's Subduing of Demons
Vajra Treasury Bodhisattva Speaks to Dharma Protector Wei T'o

Bhiksu Heng Shou

-- Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva --
The Bodhisattva Who Contemplates the Sound of the World

The Record of the Dharma Protector's Subduing of Demons continues as we listen to a joyful exchange between the Bodhisattvas whose spiritual skills we have witnessed in three proceeding issues of Vajra Bodhi Sea. Inspired by the awesome virtue and power of Wei T'o Bodhisattva, Vajra Treasury Bodhisattva now addresses that Dharma Protector with sincere words of praise, saying:

"Ahhh!...Old Wei, your 'Demon-Pounding Pestle' is certainly a fearsome weapon!...more deadly even than my 'Demon-Cutting Sword'. When I wielded my trusty blade, a few stubborn demons remained to oppose me in battle, but as you raise your gleaming Vajra pestle, the entire family of Mara trembles in terror.

Although a small number of vagrant demon bands ran away to cringe in the dark recesses of dank and musty caves, they have since been restrained by the 'Demon-Binding Lariat' of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, who herd the old frauds into lonely demon cells. Now, they ceaselessly brood in bewildered silence, and consider emerging from darkness into oceans of light. When they finally decide to change their faults, they will be liberated once again to gather with all superior and good people who experience happiness and success in the practice of good. This is truly the great kindness and compassion of the Buddha's teaching.

The recent appearance of the proper Buddhadharma in the West certifies the vast, limitless penetration of the Buddha principle. Now, Old Wei, we three can go to yet another world and continue to quell the ignorant hordes of Mara."
