A verse in critique says:

Dharma Master Ming Guan was discreet and careful,
Yet he was irresolute at the same time.
He didn't understand the political situation during that time,
    Thus he was unprepared.
Since he didn't make timely preparations,
He took the temple's money and fled.
    Although the train was fast,
He was delayed by cause and effect.

Commentary:

Dharma Master Ming Guan was discreet and careful. He worked discreetly and didn't dare to err in cause and effect. However, he didn't know that he should not be indecisive when facing major disasters.

Yet he was irresolute at the same time. Because he was indecisive, he was weak in character. He lacked resolute and daring boldness.

He didn't understand the political situation during that time. He didn't recognize the chaotic situation at that time, especially the ferocious Communists.

Thus he was unprepared. He didn't plan ahead or prepare.

Since he didn't make timely preparations, Dharma Master Ming Guan got nervous only when the Communists arrived. He packed up in a hurry, much like a person who waits until he is thirsty to dig a well, and it was of no use.

He took the temple's money and fled. In the midst of war, he hastily gathered the monastery's funds and fled.

Although the train was fast, even though he got on a train, its speed didn't beat the Communists.

He was delayed by cause and effect. Dharma Master Ming Guan thought he would not make mistakes in cause and effect if he was careful, but he didn't know he would err in cause and effect due to a thought of ignorance.

Another verse says:

Dharma Master Ming Guan was short in stature,
    Narrow-minded, and shallow in wisdom.
He was thin and had a beard like a Taoist.
Cultivating earnestly, he specialized in reciting the Buddha's name.
He believed in cause and effect, and respected ghosts and spirits.
In the Moonlit Cave, he often practiced samadhi.
A monk repented at a place where stars shine.
Not understanding important matters, as if one loses his parents,
He entered Nirvana at Eastern Chan Monastery in Hong Kong.

Commentary:
Dharma Master Ming Guan was short in stature, narrow-minded, and shallow in wisdom. His knowledge was not profound.

He was thin and had a beard like a Taoist. When wind blew on his beard, it looked like a horsetail. Thus, Dharma Master Ming Guan resembled an old Taoist.

Cultivating earnestly, he specialized in reciting the Buddha's name. He cultivated sincerely and specialized in the Dharma door of Buddha recitation.

He believed in cause and effect, and respected ghosts and spirits. Because of that, he was very careful in what he did.

In the Moonlit Cave, he often practiced samadhi. In the Moonlit Cave, where Hanshan (Cold Mountain) and Shide (Foundling) were believed to have retired to, he often practiced Chan meditation.

A monk repented at a place where stars shine. He was frequently seen repenting at a place where stars shine brightly through.

Not understanding important matters, as if one loses his parents. If one doesn't understand the important matters of birth and death, it's as if one has lost one's parents. It will be more serious if one comprehends the matters of birth and death.

He entered Nirvana at Eastern Chan Monastery in Hong Kong. In the end, Dharma Master Ming Guan entered Nirvana at Eastern Chan Monastery in Hong Kong.
