In the new year '71',
We pray you'll all be happy.
May your bravest hopes unfold,
Your excellence enrich the Dharma Realm.
May fortune accord with your wishes,
And your wisdom and blessings reach the highest peaks.
May long life and glory be yours,
Your body and mind be healthy and serene.
May your nature be pure, full and bright.
Enlightenment, contemplation—
Free and at ease.

Today I have written a few lines of verse, which can serve as a "happy new year" blessing from the Sino-American Buddhist Association, the Buddhist Lecture Hall, and Vajra Bodhi Sea to all our readers.

In the new year '71', which is the year xin hai on the Chinese calendar,

We pray you'll all be happy. This prayer is not just for one person, but for all of us and all our readers, and all living beings. It refers in particular to anyone who has seen our journal. May we all be extremely joyful.

May your bravest hopes unfold. May you be able to realize all your aspirations. If your ambition is to be the king or the president, you could run for election and win. "Bravest hopes" refers to aspirations that others dare not have. You will be able to realize them all. For example, suppose you are determined to study the Buddhadharma: "I must penetrate and understand this Sutra!" That's a brave hope. When your bravest hopes are fulfilled, may your excellence enrich the Dharma Realm. The light of your virtue will pervade the Dharma Realm, and everyone will benefit from it.

May fortune accord with your wishes. All your wishes will come true this year. Last year you may not have accomplished your goals. Perhaps you didn't do well in your studies, or you were unemployed and couldn't find work. In general, any hopes left unfulfilled last year, will be realized this year, and everything will be auspicious.

And your wisdom and blessings reach the highest peaks. You will have both blessings and wisdom.

May long life and glory be yours. You will be long-lived and wealthy. Glory refers to wealth.

Your body and mind be healthy and serene. May you feel physically fine, comfortable and at ease, with no vexations.

May your nature be pure, full and bright. May your inherent nature be pure and radiant, so that your enlightenment, contemplation are free and at ease. This does not necessarily refer to the Bodhisattva Who Contemplates at Ease. Rather, it means you yourself have enlightened and bear a constant resemblance to the Bodhisattva Who Contemplates at Ease.

All the members and workers of these three organizations, the Sino-American Buddhist Association, the Buddhist Lecture Hall, and the Vajra Bodhi Sea journal, send this New Year greeting to our readers. Please translate it and print it in the journal. We wish all those who "know our sound" a Happy New Year.
