Revised version

Sutra:
The Thus Come One's state has no boundaries.
In thought after thought he appears universally in all worlds.
The Earth-Ruling Spirit Pure Eyes Contemplating Time
Saw the Buddha's deeds and rejoiced in his heart.

Wondrous sounds, limitless and inconceivable,
Universally extinguish afflictions of living beings.
The Spirit Golden Color Eyes could enlighten to this
And see the Buddha's boundless, supreme merit and virtue.

He manifests transformations of all shapes and forms,
Completely filling the ten directions of the Dharma Realm.
Fragrant Hairs Emitting Light often observes the Buddha
Universally transforming living beings in this manner.

Commentary:
The Thus Come One's state of cultivation has no boundaries or limits. In thought after thought the Buddha thinks of living beings, and so he appears universally in all worlds throughout the ten directions. The Earth Ruling Spirit Pure Eyes Contemplating Time/Saw the Buddha's deeds, his past cultivation and his present practice of teaching and transforming living beings, and rejoiced in his heart. He felt tremendous joy.

Wondrous sounds proclaimed by the Buddha, limitless and inconceivable, / Universally extinguish the obstacles of afflictions of living beings. / The Spirit Golden Color Eyes could enlighten to this principle and see the Buddha's immeasurable, boundless, supreme merit and virtue.

He manifests transformations of all shapes and forms. The Buddha assumes the appearances of living beings of every shape and form, and he teaches and transforms those beings, completely filling the ten directions of the Dharma Realm. The Buddha doesn't do this in only one world; he does it throughout the ten directions of the Dharma Realm. The Earth-Ruling Spirit named Fragrant Hairs Emitting Light often observes the state of the Buddha. All the grains, fruits, and so forth, which are produced from the earth, are called "Fragrant Hairs." The Buddha practices great kindness and compassion, universally transforming all living beings in this manner.

Sutra:
Wondrous sounds pervade the ten directions,
Proclaiming for the multitudes through measureless eons.
The Earth Spirit Delightful understood this in his heart.
Hearing the Buddha evoked profound reverence and joy.

The Buddha releases clouds of fragrant flames from his pores
And pervades the world according to living beings' minds.
All who behold him are brought to maturation.
This is the contemplation of Coiled Flowers.

Sturdy and indestructible like vajra,
Immovable like Mount Sumeru,
The Buddha's body thus dwells in the world.
Universally Supported was delighted to see this.

Commentary:
The wondrous sounds of the Buddha as he speaks the Dharma pervade the ten directions, / Proclaiming for the multitudes through measureless eons. The Buddha's wondrous Dharma sounds pervade the ten directions, and the duration of his speaking of Dharma spans the three periods of time—past, present, and future. The Earth Spirit Delightful understood this state in his heart. / Hearing the wonderful Dharma at the place where the Buddha was evoked profound reverence and joy within him.

The Buddha releases clouds of fragrant flames from his pores /And pervades the world according to living beings' minds. / All who behold him are brought to maturation. Everyone who sees the Buddha's state achieves maturity. This is the contemplation of Coiled Flowers. The Earth-Ruling Spirit Coiled Flowers understood this principle.

The Buddha's body is sturdy and indestructible like vajra. How did the Buddha get such a sturdy body? Through practicing great kindness and compassion, cultivating the Kind Heart Samadhi, and protecting the Dharma. His resolve to protect the Dharma enabled him to attain such a solid body. Dharma protectors do not hold the precepts and rules of deportment themselves, but they wield swords and other weapons to guard the Dharma.

Once there was a Bhikshu named Jiaode, who held the precepts, but who was mistreated by a Bhikshu who did not hold precepts. The King went to war with the Bhikshu who didn't hold precepts, and in the end was killed by them. At death, he was reborn in the Eastern Land of Akshobya Buddha, where he became that Buddha's foremost disciple. The Bhikshu Jiaode later entered perfect stillness and was also reborn in the Eastern Vaidurya Land, to become Akshobya Buddha's second disciple. Therefore, the merit of the one who protected the Dharma surpassed that of the one who was protected. In any case, protecting the Dharma enables one to attain a body of vajra.

As steady and immovable like Mount Sumeru, / The Buddha's body thus dwells in the world. The Buddha's body is likened to vajra and to Mount Sumeru. The Earth-Ruling Spirit Universally Supported was immensely delighted to see this state of the Buddha.

Sutra:
Moreover, the City-Ruling Spirit named Jeweled Peak Illumination obtained the liberation door of expediently benefiting living beings.
The City-Ruling Spirit named Wondrously Adorning Palaces ob tained the liberation door of knowing living beings' faculties and teaching and transforming them to bring them to maturity.
The City-Ruling Spirit named Pure Jewels of Joy obtained the liberation door of constantly delighting in enabling all living beings to enjoy blessings and virtue.

Commentary:
Moreover, the City-Ruling Spirit named Jeweled Peak Illumination obtained the liberation door of expediently benefiting living beings.
He uses various kinds of expedient methods to benefit living beings. He attained that state of the Buddha, that liberation door.

The City-Ruling Spirit named Wondrously Adorning Palaces makes all palaces adorned and beautiful. He obtained the liberation door of knowing living beings' faculties, knowing whether their faculties are deep or shallow, and knowing what they like, and then using this knowledge in teaching and transforming them to bring them to maturity. He obtained that door to liberation.

The City-Ruling Spirit named Pure Jewels of Joy obtained the liberation door of constantly delighting in enabling all living beings to enjoy blessings and virtue. He likes to encourage living beings to bring forth the Bodhi resolve and increase their good roots, blessings, and wisdom. He obtained that door to liberation.

Sutra:
The City-Ruling Spirit named Pure and Free from Worry obtained the liberation door of a treasury of great compassion which delivers beings from all fear.
The City-Ruling Spirit named Flower Lamps and Blazing Eyes obtained the liberation door of universal understanding and great wisdom.
The City-Ruling Spirit named Blazing Banner's Clear Manifestation obtained the liberation door of expediently manifesting everywhere.

Commentary:
The City-Ruling Spirit named Pure and Free from Worry
makes sure that all the citizens in his city are free from worry and attain purity. He protects the city from danger, so the people have nothing to worry about. He obtained the liberation door of a treasury of great compassion which delivers beings from all fear. With his compassionate heart, he rescues living beings from terrifying situations. He bestows fearlessness upon them so that they do not feel anxiety or fear. His compassion is called a treasury because it is so profuse. He obtained that door to liberation.

The City-Ruling Spirit named Flower Lamps and Blazing Eyes obtained the liberation door of universal understanding and great wisdom. All living beings attain universal understanding and have great wisdom. He obtained that liberation door.

The City-Ruling Spirit named Blazing Banner's Clear Manifestation obtained the liberation door of expediently manifesting everywhere. He uses expedient dharmas to appear universally before living beings, causing living beings to attain expedient dharmas and be rescued. That is his door to liberation.

Sutra:
The City-Ruling Spirit named Flourishing Blessings Awesome Light obtained the liberation door of universally contemplating all living beings and causing them to cultivate a vast sea of blessings and virtue.

Commentary:
The City-Ruling Spirit named Flourishing Blessings Awesome Light obtained the liberation door of universally contemplating all living beings
in the ten directions to see which living beings are ready to be saved, and causing them to cultivate a vast sea of blessings and virtue. Their blessings and virtue are as boundless as an ocean. This city-ruling spirit attained this state of the Buddha and entered this door to liberation.

Sutra:
The City-Ruling Spirit named Body of Pure Radiance obtained the liberation door of enlightening all foolish and dim-witted living beings.

Commentary:
The City-Ruling Spirit named Body of Pure Radiance
has a body that is both pure and radiant. This spirit also rules over a city. He obtained the state and the liberation door of enlightening all foolish and dim-witted living beings. He enables foolish beings to gain wisdom, and dim- witted beings to attain light and "enlightenment." Those who are blind from birth know nothing at all. People who do not understand the Buddhadharma are likened to blind people. The Nirvana Sutra describes a person blind from birth who asked what color milk was. He was told it was the color of a (white) shell. People also compared it to the color of rice flour, the color of snow, and the color of a white crane.
