我的學佛因緣
How I Came to Study Buddhism

小時後生長在鄉下農村,父母親皆是基督教徒。由於身體不好,據說身體不佳,乃因與陽宅有關,曾經尋覓有名地理師,東遷西改,花了數十萬元,也不具效果。爾後親近外道。但又因看了一些真相後,便生退心,才終止再去親近。

有一天,無聊之際,好奇地翻開在桌上的「上人事蹟」及「開示錄」,目不轉睛地看了上人德相及開示後,使我從茫茫大海中,找到了指引的方向,並找到了許多,我一直無法了解某些事情真相的正確答案。從此信心倍增,並認定這才是我心目中的善知識。

一九九三年上人返台弘法,我與同修、兒子參加皈依,那時我還帶著藥參加。雖然當時聽到上人說:「過去你們所造的惡業,統統算我的,以後可別再造!」但是自皈依上人半年多,我卻一直沒去「法界佛教印經會」共修。當初我是這麼想,護持哪個道場都是一樣,只要距離家近就好,尤其附近道場林立。

直到有一天,與同修去「法界佛教印經會」,當我踏入大門後才知道,原來師父上人的道場,是這麼的莊嚴、清淨、和諧,是真正修行的好地方。法師莊嚴持戒、修苦行,與眾不同之道風,感動我從此以後再也不四處跑道場,凡遇有法會即回來共修,真是殊勝無比。

法師慈悲,女兒本來不信佛法,現也皈依三寶了。現在闔家皆為上人弟子。如今百病消除,更印證了上人憐憫眾生,發十八大願其中之第十二大願:「願將法界眾生,所有一切苦難,悉皆與我一人代受。」第十四大願:「願一切眾生見我面,乃至聞我名,悉發菩提心,速成佛道。」

上人慈悲教化,忘己濟群生,但願生生世世護持上人的法,依教奉行,以報師恩。

I grew up in a farming village with Christian parents. Because my health was poor and I heard that the location of my house might have something to do with it, I consulted a well-known geomancer and spent several hundred thousand dollars moving to a new house and remodeling it, but to no avail. Later I came in contact with a heterodox religion. However, I was disheartened by what I saw.

One day when I had nothing else to do, out of curiosity, I flipped through a copy of the Venerable Master's biography and talks that was lying on the table. I could not tear my eyes away from the Master's picture and his talks. After reading them, I was able to get myself oriented in the vast sea of confusion in which I had been floundering. I also found answers for many questions that I had never been able to resolve before. With deepened faith, I was convinced that the Master was the good and wise advisor I had been searching for.

When the Master came to Taiwan in 1993, my wife, son, and myself took refuge with him. I was still on medication at that time, and the Master said, "All the evil karma you created in the past can be counted as mine, but take care not to create any more in the future!" Half a year after taking refuge, I had still not visited the Dharma Realm Buddhist Books Distribution Society, because I thought it didn't matter which temple I went to, as long as it was close to home. And the temples near my home were as numerous as trees in a forest.

One day my wife and I went to the Dharma Realm Buddhist Books Distribution Society. As soon as we stepped inside, we noticed how serene, pure, and harmonious it was. The Venerable Master's Way-place is a place where people truly practice. The dignity with which the Dharma Masters observed the precepts and their ascetic lifestyle made them different from the ordinary crowd. From then on, I always attended Dharma sessions there and didn't go to other temples; it was incomparably wonderful.

Under the Dharma Masters' kind influence, my daughter who had not believed in Buddhism also took refuge with the Triple Jewel, and now all the members of our family are the Venerable Master's disciples. The disappearance of all my illnesses is proof of the twelfth and fourteenth of the eighteen great vows that the Venerable Master made out of compassion for living beings:

12. I vow to fully take upon myself all sufferings and hardships of all the living beings in the Dharma Realm. 14. I vow that all living beings who see my face or even hear my name will resolve their minds on Bodhi and soon attain Buddhahood.

The Venerable Master, forgetting himself, compassionately teaches and saves the multitudes. In order to repay the Master for his kindness, I vow to protect, support, and practice the Master's teachings in life after life.
