W hen we are little, we have to learn how to be a good person and to know what’s good and what's bad; this is what Instilling Goodness and Developing Virtue School teaches about. The teachers want the children’s personalities to be good, so when they grow up, they will benefit society.

The goals for the school are to teach children to be good people. This includes respecting elders and teachers and being filial to parents. We should listen to what our parents say and do what they tell us to do. That is called being filial. In school, the students cannot cheat, steal, or fight. We should be kind to each other and always help others when they need it. There is something that makes this school special: we can learn about Buddhism and also how to read and write in Chinese. That is something we cannot learn in other schools.

This is a very good and special school. I like it, because it is different from all other schools! The teachers help us to be good people, and we are all trying to go in that direction.

I n our school we are taught to be filial to our parents, respectful towards our teachers and elders, and how to be a good person. At our school we have students from all over the world. There are students that speak two languages and are learning their third. We are all learning Chinese, which is some people’s third language. Some kids are learning English, and we are all helping them learn it. We don't like to kill animals so we have vegetarian lunches and we don't waste food. The older kids help the younger kids. Everyone learns from everyone else, and we all work together. We have students from many different religions and countries, and we all learn from each other.

O ur school is special for a lot of reasons, but there is one reason that makes our school very special. This reason is filiality. I think all schools should teach it. There are other things too. For example: the students always respect the teacher and the teacher will be kind to the students. Teachers get along better here than in most schools. If a teacher is a nun then the student must respect the teacher’s religion. There are many people from different religions at our school, such as: Buddhists, Muslims, Christians. Other students don’t have a religion. There are other things that make our school special besides filiality. Here are some of them: learning about the Buddha’s life and his teaching, getting to learn a language most other schools don’t teach (Chinese), learning Chinese ethics and the “Rules for Being a Student,” and getting an education that is different from and better than what we could get in most schools around here!!

W e are taught to respect each other and to be filial to our parents and elders. We have a good education at our school. What makes our school special is that we have students from many different religions. The teachers like student suggestions. We are taught Buddhism and learn the Chinese language. Our school has a good environment at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas. The older students help teach the younger classes, like kindergarten and first through third grades. Our school is special because it teaches us to be good people, and maybe someday we’ll be able to help this country. I think this school is special to me because the teachers care about their students and they do their best to give us a good education.
