A READER'S RESPONSE

By Rong Yue

Vajra Bodhi Sea is getting better and better!
I suddenly felt that every word in Vajra Bodhi Sea is a gem,
and every line contains both worldly and the world-transcending guidance.

To the Editors of The Buddhist Monthly-- Vajra Bodhi Sea:

The Buddhist Monthly-- Vajra Bodhi Sea is really a rare and wonderful magazine. Yesterday after school, I read the February issue from cover to cover in one sitting. I'm deeply grateful for all I've gained from it, and I can't help expressing the joy in my heart. So I'm writing to the Ten Thousand Buddhas Column to let everyone know that Vajra Bodhi Sea is getting better and better!

In the past, I didn't pay much attention to Vajra Bodhi Sea. Yesterday, after reading "Zhuang Zi," "The Shurangama Sutra with Commentary," "An Introduction to the Book of Changes," and the article on the Celebration for the Elderly in the February issue, I suddenly felt that every word in Vajra Bodhi Sea is a gem, and every line contains both worldly and the world-transcending guidance. In the past, I was too blind, and didn't read carefully enough. The story of Zhuang Zi teaches me to enlarge my mind. The Shurangama Sutra's instruction to "sever thoughts of lust" warns me once again. Thinking of how great my lust is, I know my karmic obstructions are deep and heavy. If one wants to become a Buddha, he must first eradicate lust and uphold the pure precepts. Although I knew this already, Vajra Bodhi Sea reminded me made me remorseful once more. Other articles, like the "Commentary on the Lives of the Patriarchs," showed me that with persistence and concentration, one can accomplish anything.

The articles in Proper Dharma Seal, Biographies, Introduction to Buddhism, Focus on Education, Venerable Master's Dharma Rain, Special Features, Ten Thousand Buddhas Column, Bodhi Field, News from the Dharma Realm and Sutra of the Month are written for all kinds of people, exhorting cultivators and inspiring future generations. Reading them fills me with restless excitement and joy. Because my blessings are few and my obstructions are heavy, I dare not write too much, but only hope that everyone will also like this magazine.
