PRESIDENT DONG-BWO LEE OF THE CHINA JOURNAL OF NEW YORK
VISITS THE INTERNATIONAL TRANSLATION INSTITUTE

By Gwo Rung

On May 2, Mr. Dong-bwo Lee, the president of China Journal of New York, paid a visit to the International Translation Institute to attend a lecture on the Dharma. When the Venerable Master invited him to speak, President Lee modestly said that although he knew nothing about the Buddhadharma, he could affirm the importance of the Buddhist practice of vegetarianism. He predicts that vegetarianism will soon be adopted by the whole world. President Lee explained that scientific studies clearly show that the largest animals are herbivorous and do not eat meat. This proves that vegetables have more nutrition than meat. He also pointed out that the greatest problem in life is that we do not know where we came from at birth and where we are going after we die. The different religions have different explanations, but the Buddhist explanation is the most scientific, whereas in other religions, the more they try to explain, the more confusing it gets. President Lee says, "I am Catholic, and Catholicism teaches that after death there is Heaven and Hell. However, from contemplating the seasonal changes of Nature, and the births and deaths of all the myriad things, I am positive that the Buddhist doctrine of transmigration and rebirth is true. Therefore, I believe that people can eventually become Buddhas."
