INTRODUCING THE EMINENT DHARMA MASTER

BHIKSUNI SHIH TAN FANG

     Bhiksuni Tan Fang was born in Taiwan, Republic of China, in July 1950. Her family name was Ch’en, and her personal name Hsing-yu. She left the home-life on July 25,1968, in Tainan, Taiwan, in spite of the fact that her teacher, the Elder Bhiksuni Tai Ching, lived in Hong Kong. Not long after she left home she received the complete precepts at Great Enlightenment Temple in Keelung, Taiwan, from the Venerable Master Tao Yuan.

      She entered the Eastern Buddhist Studies Academy at Buddha’s Light Mountain in Kaohsing, Taiwan immediately following her ordination, and completing her studies, graduated in 1972. Bhiksuni Tan Feng has traveled considerably, twice to Hong Kong, and has lived in Hawaii for nearly a year. Immediately following her graduation she traveled to the United States, and is now diligently studying English with an eye to propagating the proper Dharma here. She is in the United States with her teacher, the Elder Bhiksuni Tai Ching (see VBS issue #44) and resides at 836 33rd Avenue in San Francisco.

ANNIVERSARY ISSUE
AN ANNOUNCEMENT OF SPECIAL INTEREST

On Its fifth anniversary of publication, Vajra Bodhi Sea will publish a special commemorative edition. This issue, scheduled for the spring of 1975, will be twice the size of a regular issue. It will contain articles, stories, translations, poems, biographic and other items of interest from all over the world.

Contributions to this issue are welcome. Members of the Sangi laymen, scholars, adepts, and students are encouraged to contribute. Any material of interest to students of the Buddhadharma will be considered. It should be submitted prior to November 15th, 1974.
