CELEBRATION FOR AVALOKITESVARA BODHISATTVA
WELCOME FOR EMINENT UPASIKA FROM HONG KONG.

      On July 29th, the anniversary of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva's enlightenment, a large committee was on hand to welcome Upasika Kan Kuo Yen on her first visit to Gold Mountain Monastery since its establishment two years ago. A long and faithful disciple of the Venerable Master Hsuan Hua, Kan Kuo Yen has been a vigorous Dharma Protector who has supported not only the Triple Jewel in Hong Kong, but has generously worked for the establishment of Buddhism in America as well. Shown in the picture below with the Venerable Master (center) are many of his disciples who were on hand to celebrate Avalokitesvara's enlightenment and welcome Upasika Kan who is seated in the second row, fourth from the left. On her right is another eminent Upasika Tseng Kuo Ch'eng, also from Hong Kong.

TRAVELING HONG KONG BUDDHISTS VISIT GOLD MOUNTAIN

      The Sino-American Buddhist Association is pleased to receive a continual flow of visitors who stop in to participate in the Dharma assembly, pay their respects to the Venerable Master Hsuan Hua, and meet the members of the Association. All are eager for news about the flourishing of the proper Dharma in the West. During the first week in August, Bhiksuni Chiao An, Principal of Tung Lien Chiao Yuan's Jeweled Enlightenment Middle School, and Bhiksuni Ch'eng Ming visited Gold Mountain to pay their respects to the Venerable Master. They recently arrived in San Francisco from Hawaii, and will reside here and travel extensively before returning to Hong Kong. Their next stop is New York.

On the same day, a committee of well wishers was on hand to see Upasika Tseng Kuo Ch'eng off on her return trip to Hong Kong. An eminent Buddhist and Dharma Protector, Upasika Tseng is a Director of the Hong Kong Buddhist Association and Director of the Buddhist Bodhi School, to name just two of her many activities which further propagation of the Buddhadharma (see VBS Issue #l8, page 40.)

Shown in the picture below are (l. to r.) Upasika Tseng Kuo Ch'eng, Bhiksuni Chiao An, the Venerable Master Hua, Bhiksuni Ch’eng Ming, and Upasika P. Y. Hsieh, famous author "and Professor of Chinese Literature and Composition at Taiwan Normal University. All who were on hand for the arrival and departure were in a joyous mood, and felt fortunate to have the opportunity to benefit from the Venerable Master's teaching.
